Pumpkin spiced lattes, hearty bakes and homemade goodies, from Italian delicacies to local treats, the Lake District falls nothing short of a food lovers paradise. The only issue? How do you decide on just a handful of food to indulge in during your visit?

  1. DODDS, Rydal Rd

A charming Italian in the heart of Ambleside, this quaint restaurant boasts less than 20 tables - an exclusive dining experience. No pre-booking system, just good old-fashioned walk ins greeted with a warm welcome and an extensive menu. Dodds has been a family favourite for years, and after indulging on their homemade black pudding last month, it has swiftly taken top spot for my must-taste whilst in the Lakes!

  1. Fellinis Restaurant, Church ST

This vegetarian restaurant offers a refreshing change to other dining options in the area, catering beyond the standard menu. With a wide variety of choices, this is the perfect option for groups or families looking to better cater for varying food preferences, and if vegetarian is usually something you would turn away from I'd recommend giving it a chance. The food itself combats the initial hesitance with bursts of fresh flavours, neatly presented with elegance to offer a fine dining experience. The ambiance is calm, the staff welcoming and every indulgent bite simply speaks for itself.

  1. SHEILAS COTTAGE, THE SLACK

Home away from home. A visit to the Lake District is a testament to staycations, from cosy cottages to wholesome Sunday morning strolls, but the ultimate warmth comes from the food served at Sheila's Cottage. A traditional British menu elevated with exquisite flavour combinations and modern twists. One of the greatest things about the Lakes is its pet friendly inclusivity, here, you'll find pups relaxed and enjoying a treat of their own whilst you share a laugh over warm bread and perfectly paired wines.

  1. COPPER POT, CHURCH ST

This charming little cafe perched in the heart of Ambleside boasts a warm and welcoming atmosphere perfectly catered for a damp day or a post walk treat. A hearty portion of homemade soup, served with a slice of warm, thick bread, followed sweetly with the crunch of apple pie, or the ooze of a hot fudge sundae. The Copper Pot is a favourite amongst locals and visitors and is the perfect compliment to the heart and soul of Ambleside.

  1. JINTANA THAI RESTAURANT, COMPSTON RD

An adventure for your tastebuds far beyond the rolling hills of the Lake District. Jintana boasts an authentic charm that truly transports you to Thailand - dishes that dance to the rhythm of spice, friendly staff that elevate each course with recommendations and suggestions and an overall experience from start to finish that will leave this restaurant on your lips way beyond the day you indulge. They also offer takeaway options, so the perfect excuse for a family games night or a post walk banquet.

  1. THE GOLDEN RULE, SMITHY BROW

Embrace the feel of a timeless pub - The Golden Rule sits at the foot of the Kirkstone Pass offering a warm abode to damp travelers and restless locals. Designed like a Tardis, the many side rooms create pockets of laughter, the red carpets and picture covered walls take you to a time that pubs ran society and an evening pint with friends was the best form of medicine. Now, this traditional pub is proud to be amongst Amblesides unique charm as it sees new faces smiling with the change of each season.

  1. THE VAULT, CHEAPSIDE

Sport lovers, The Vault is the one for you. This new to the scene bar boasts a pool table and large flat screen, one of the only places you'll catch live sports at the center of the atmosphere! A laid back feel makes it the perfect spot to get a little more dressed up, trial some cocktails and enjoy some entertainment, whether that be live music or watching your partner loose tremendously to someone on the pool table ... and then blame the table.

  1. AMBLESIDE ARMS, MARKET PL

A relaxing evening isn't hard to come by in the Lake District, but a night at the Ambleside Arms certainly offers that cosy pub feeling that takes the edge of. A menu that takes care of everyone, from pie and mash, fish and chips, to the modern twist on tradition with baked camembert and panko prawns - a bottle of wine, snack plates on the way, card games and stories, the subtle patter of rain drops against the window as you nestle in the warmth of the Ambleside Inn on a brisk Autumn night. A place to enjoy time with family and friends.
